I've just realised that even though some of the third year girls are going to the ball, none of the third year boys are. Because even though there might be a few older girls, like Daphne Greengrass, who are planning to ask boys, they're probably not going to be interested in the company of someone who is younger.
I wonder why it's acceptable for older boys to keep the company of younger girls, and not the other way around? It must change quite a lot once you're an adult, though. My Nanella's boyfriend Pascoal is much younger than her, but that seems to be one of the things she likes best about him.
Do people remember the quiz that went around last year, about the students who were in year 3 back then? It had categories like "Most Fit" and "Mousiest" and "Most Heroic" and "Least Fanciable."
I've heard some talk that there's going to be another quiz again, and this time it will be even more detailed, and include more years than just year 3.
Maybe it's just a rumour, but if it's not I thought people might want to know, so that they're not caught off guard.

2011-12-09 16:56 (UTC)They said that last year's quiz was immature and didn't make enough of a splash. And it sounded as if they were already working on it because they said something about how it was going to be so much better if it were written by Slytherins.
I know they're planning to include year 3 because they were suggesting Norma for "most likely to die a virgin."
Norma and I aren't very good friends but how can you tell someone's going to die a virgin when they're only 13?
Elsie and Samantha are usually nice to me, but they've never been anything but nice to Norma, either. I just wish I had heard them say what they're planning to write about me. Because if it's something Mummy wouldn't like....well, I don't know what I'd do but at least I could be prepared.

2011-12-09 17:03 (UTC)Because really, it's not very original, is it? To copy whomever did it last year?
As for girls going but boys not, Mum says girls mature faster than boys. And really it's true, if you think about it. We all seem to be ready for more grown-up things sooner and it's like older boys are better able to understand what you're thinking, or what to say, and when not to say anything. And I think boys like a girl who's a little younger mostly because they can feel more grown-up themselves. Don't you think?

2011-12-09 17:09 (UTC)I suppose that's all true, but really, I was just thinking it's too bad that none of the year 3 boys will go to the ball when so many of the girls will, because there's really nothing they can do to change that.
But I suppose not all boys like girls who are younger. And Cho Chang must like younger boys, too.

Re: Private Message to Hydra Lestrange
2011-12-09 19:04 (UTC)The thing is, I don't think he knew it, but Chang and Diggory started dating a little bit at the start of school. I think if Marvolo hadn't asked her she'd've gone with Diggory instead. Only he did ask and she thought she didn't have a choice, did she?
So I dunno. I mean, now Diggory's going with one of the Durmstrang girls and you've got your date with Finch-Fletchley and who knows how everything will end up?
Besides, you can still dance with Harry if you want to, right?
But about that quiz.... The thing is that last year it was so rude about people. I wouldn't want someone to think they could do that again. And especially with the foreign students here, it doesn't look well. Does it?
So if you did know who's thinking of it--and I'm not saying you do, but if you did--you could tell them it's a bad idea? I mean, Clearwater's already about round the twist over what she thinks is people betraying state secrets or something. Imagine what she'd do if one of those quizzes comes out? It might be entertaining to see her head slide off like Nearly Headless Nick's but somehow I doubt we'd be pleased with the end results. Honestly, she's so predictable.
Re: Private Message to Hydra Lestrange
2011-12-09 20:55 (UTC)Diggory is older than Chang, so I guess she must fancy older boys after all.
Harry can dance with me if he asks me to, but I'm looking forward to dancing with Justin. I've been practising some different dance steps so that I'm ready, and Aunt Narcissa is going to pick out my dress robes and accessories.
Last year's quiz?
But weren't youWell, I really don't know the specifics about who's planning to write this years, but if I find out who it is, I'll see what I can do to talk them out of it.From,

2011-12-09 21:07 (UTC)I guess you prefer things Mrs Malfoy would pick out, as far as robes, to anything from Kosette? Not that Kosette doesn't make beautiful clothes--she does--but they're a bit dark for your colouring. Just so you know, Mum would love to design something for you, if you ever wanted.
I dunno who wrote last year's quiz, either, but it could have been handled better.
Re: Private Message to Hydra Lestrange
2011-12-09 21:23 (UTC)Aunt Narcissa really wanted to help, is all. She adores Draco, of course, but I don't think she would mind having a daughter and I make a good substitute. And it would be lovely to have something by your mother one day, so I'll remember that.

2011-12-09 20:04 (UTC)I don't usually bring him out of the dungeons because I worry that something will happen to him, but I think just this once it should be safe, so long as I'm careful.
Because I think I've been cooping him up in my room and treating him like he might have an allergy, when he really doesn't have any at all.

2011-12-09 20:59 (UTC)I'd love to meet him. Cheers, thanks for asking. And it's kind to think that he might want to stretch his legs now and then, as well.
I've been meaning to ask you, what colour are the robes you're wearing to the Ball? Some of the others have been practising changing their sleeve lining colours or their cravats and I thought I'd have a go at it, what?

Re: Private message to Justin Finch-Fletchley
2011-12-09 21:00 (UTC)My Aunt Narcissa said she would pick out my dress robes, and she knows my favourite colour is pink, which.. well, I know boys don't like pink very much, do they? But the robes might not be pink all over, or even pink at all. I won't really know until they arrive.

2011-12-09 21:23 (UTC)Perhaps we'll just wait and see what your aunt sends, what? I think I'll just pracise anyway. I might be able to manage something that'll look well anyway.

Re: Private message to Justin Finch-Fletchley
2011-12-09 21:28 (UTC)And even if the robes are pink, they can't be worse than the robes Mummy sent, which are all black and have lace and buckles and netting in strange places. I suppose she thinks that what looks good on her might as well look good on me, and hasn't considered that we don't really look much alike at all, for a Mother and Daughter.

2011-12-09 21:36 (UTC)Er. No, I can't quite imagine you in the sort of thing Auror Lestrange wears. I don't think it would suit you at all.
But I think something like that is just as much in feeling comfortable, isn't it, as it would be in simply looking the part, what? I mean to say, I had to get used to robes and such. ... On account of being inside all the time, I mean, of course. But now I don't think they're well odd at all.
Anyway. I don't think you should have to pretend to be anything you're not, Hydra. Truly.
See you after supper.

Re: Private message to Justin Finch-Fletchley
2011-12-09 21:48 (UTC)I remember Draco saying that some muggles made fun of his robes when he was lost in France. I suppose that living somewhere were there are muggles, and they're not in camps...that would really change things a lot, even things like fashion.
And thanks for saying that. I don't think Mummy really wants me to pretend, either.
